Songs of the Way is the title of the sixth album by young British-Muslim singer, songwriter and composer Sami Yusuf, released on January 1, 2015.
His newly-released album features 12 audio tracks with a traditional Iranian and Islamic theme. The sophisticated, poetry-like lyrics have been written by Seyyed Hossein Nasr, an Iranian University Professor of Islamic studies at George Washington University.
Except for two tracks which are in Persian and Arabic, the rest of the songs are in English. Sami Yusuf himself plays most of the instruments heard in the songs, and has benefited from assistance from Babak Radmanesh and a number of other Iranian musicians in playing some traditional Iranian instruments.
Sami Yusuf is an Iranian-born British singer, songwriter, composer, producer and an accomplished musician. He gained widespread fame with his self-produced groundbreaking debut album Al-Muallim, which sold well over 7 million copies and earned him a massive following in the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia.
Sami Yusuf has headlined various big news agencies including CNN, BBC, ABC and AlJazeera. Time Magazine once hailed him as 'Islam’s biggest Rock Star' and The Guardian dubbed him as 'the most famous British Muslim in the World.'
His music offers a fresh alternative to the mainstream western music.
