Rouhani calls for boosting economic ties among CICA members

TEHRAN, May 21 (MNA) – Iran’s president at CICA Summit in Shanghai has called for boosting economic ties and joint investments among the CICA members.

China hosts the 4th CICA Summit (Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia) and the 1st session is being held Wednesday morning.

Xi Jinping China’s president welcomed the meeting first and then Ahmet Davutoğlu Turkey’s foreign minister gave a speech.  Ahmet Davutoğlu was the former secretary general of CICA and Xi Jinping is appointed the new secretary general.

Iran’s Hassan Rouhani delivered a speech on Wednesday, morning session and emphasized on regional and trans-regional cooperation among CICA members.

Rouhani held that economic investments for joint projects, expansion of transportation, cooperation in energy scope, direct banking transfer, water sources management and other economic cooperation would lead to more unions in Asia among CICA members.

He also emphasized on cooperation to demolish weapons of mass destruction to gain peace and security for all.

“As I mentioned in a UN session last year, weapons of mass destruction should be demolished to have a world against violence and extremism (WAVE),” added Rouhani and that “Islamic Republic of Iran is always against any nuclear weapon but using peaceful nuclear energy is Iran’s – and all countries’— undisputable right.”

He also made hints to Syrian crisis and said that the crisis would not be limited to the Syrian borders, it rather could widespread to go beyond borders and the extremists groups and terrorists fighting there could enter CICA members’ countries as well. “National discourse and mutual understanding are needed for the Syrian to gain peace and security in their country.”

Rouhani side wiped to Palestine issue and said “UN called 2014 Year of Solidarity with Palestinians so it is good that CICA pays more attention to the deplorable conditions of the people there.”

“Lack of attention by the world lead to vast invasion by Zionist Regime in Palestine which resulted to human catastrophe there which will affect the whole world,” maintained Rouhani and that “I hope CICA members’ cooperation will end to Asia without war, violence and extremism.”

In this trip Rouhani is accompanied by Mohammad Javad Zarif, foreign minister, Akbar Torkan, advisor, Abbas Akhundi, minister of road and urban development, Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, oil minister, Mohammad Nahavandian head of president's office.

On the sidelines of the conference Rouhani will meet with leaders of other member countries attending the conference. He will also visit Iranians living in China, businessmen and Iranian embassy staff. During his stay in China Rouhani and Chinese president will meet and will attend a joint press conference

CICA is a multi-national forum for enhancing cooperation towards promoting peace, security and stability in Asia. It is a forum based on the recognition that there is close link between peace, security and stability in Asia and in the rest of the world. The Member States, while affirming their commitment to the UN Charter, believe that peace and security in Asia can be achieved through dialogue and cooperation leading to a common indivisible area of security in Asia where all states co-exist peacefully and their peoples live in peace, freedom and prosperity.
