Def. Min.: Iran to receive S-300 missile system this year

TEHRAN, Apr. 16 (MNA) – Iran’s minister of defense has told reporters before departing to Moscow Iran will receive S-300 missile defense systems from Russia in current year.

Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehqan is in Moscow with the official invitation by Russian counterpart General of the Army Sergey Kuzhugetovich Shoygu to participate in Moscow International Security Conference.

Brig. Gen. Dehqan will have meetings with his counterparts of different countries to discuss bilateral, regional, and international affairs on the sidelines of the conference.

Before departing to Moscow, Defense Minister told reporters that since Rouhani’s government assumed power, S-300 delivery to Iran was quite an issue, and Mr. Rouhani in his meetings with Vladimir Putin had conditioned Iran’s abstention from its lawsuit in the International Court in the Hague on receiving S-300 missile defense system.

“In last year’s conference, we raised the issue and Russian defense minister agreed to solve the issue in a certain framework, which yielded in a final decision of delivery of missile defense system by the end of 2015,” Dehqan told the press.

“The Russian side seriously addressed the case and will sign the deal in this visit; however, the US and Zionist regime officials objected to selling of these systems to us since the conception of the agreement,” he added.
