IAEA delegation in Tehran for technical talks

TEHRAN, Apr. 15 (MNA) – The IAEA delegation headed by the Agency’s Deputy Director General Tero Varjoranta arrived in Tehran today to hold technical talks with Iranian officials.

Behrouz Kamalvandi, the Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), noted that bilateral talks will start today and will be attended by Iran's Permanent Representative to the IAEA, Reza Najafi, Director General for Political Affairs at the Iranian Foreign Ministry and nuclear negotiator Hamid Baeidinejad, and a number of AEOI officials.

According to Kamalvandi, the aim of the visit is to hold technical negotiations with the relevant Iranian officials within the framework of the implementation of the Framework for Cooperation signed in November 2013 to outline a roadmap on mutual cooperation on certain outstanding nuclear issues between Iran and the IAEA.

Kamalvandi maintained one of the issues to be discussed is the Agency’s allegations on Marivan’s explosions, and the other one is related to papers published in Iran in relation to neutron transport and associated modeling and calculations and their alleged application to compressed materials.

“We have already provided sufficient explanation on the article and do not think it needs any further explanation,” said Kamalvandi, also noting that Iran would give controlled access to the IAEA team to inspect Marivan site once they can specify the exact location where they think the explosions have happened.

Iran’s transparency and continued compliance with the resolutions of the nuclear program reveal its serious willingness for the nuclear negotiations with the six states to come to an ultimate agreement by June.
