On Monday, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian hosted a New Zealand delegation headed by countries Deputy-Foreign Minister Bead Curry, who hailed Iran’s political plan to solve the crisis in Yemen.
Amir-Abdollahian discussed with his counterpart from New Zealand the latest developments in the Middle East especially Iraq and Yemen. He pointed to ‘tactical errors’ committed by foreign powers in bolstering terrorism in the region which still were committed by some countries to advance their own interests, and urged that an international will should fight terrorism in the region.
Amir-Abdollahian highlighted Islamic Republic of Iran’s approach in representing and advancing nations’ demands in the region, and added that improving the terrorism position in Yemen and further escalation of the conflict would prove a real threat to global security and peace.
New Zealand deputy-foreign minister expressed concerns over the consequences of the conflict in the region on international peace and emphasized that sending troops to Iraq had only been in response to requests made by Iraqi government which only sought to participate in training Iraqi army in fighting terrorism.
Curry, whose fellow country is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, praised Iran’s serious efforts in fighting terrorism and assessed policies of both countries in Iraq as boosting the central government in that country.
Curry also hailed Iran’s plan in Yemen on sending humanitarian aid, promoting cessation of hostilities, and national dialogue and unity government in the country.
