Behrouz Kamalvandi noted during the trip the Iranian delegation would follow up on the recent agreement signed between Iran and Russian on the construction of two nuclear power plants in Bushehr.
“Currently, we are following up on the implementation phase of the plants. After this phase has been completed, Iranian companies will start making tenders to decide which parts of the plants are to be run by them,” said Kamalvandi.
According to him, the construction of the two nuclear power plants is predicted to start some time in the next month.
Kamalvandi also maintained that the Iranian delegation will also discuss the issue on fuel with the Russian officials during the trip.
Under an agreement signed in Moscow on November 11, Russia is to build two new nuclear power plant units in Iran.
Moscow will also cooperate with Tehran on developing more nuclear power units in Iran, and consider producing nuclear fuel components there, according to a memorandum signed by the heads of the state atomic bodies, Sergey Kirienko of Russia's Rosatom and Ali Akbar Salehi of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI).
Iran already runs one Russian-built reactor in its Bushehr power plant which is now fully connected to the national grid and covers part of the country’s needs for electricity.
