Intl. Takhti Cup kicks off in Kermanshah

TEHRAN, Feb. 12 (MNA) – Kermanshah’s Imam Khomeini (RA) wrestling hall has hosted International Takhti Wrestling Cup, bringing together the constellation of stars from around the world.

“The International Senior Free style, Greco-Roman and Pahlavani wrestling be held on February 12-13, 2015 in Kermanshah /IRAN by I.R.IRAN Wrestling Federation,” reads the official media release of the event, addressed to the president of United World Wrestling.

Very famous figures, inter alia, Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkey, which are the two strongest international national teams present in the event,  in free-style and Greco-Roman competitions will participate in the event to add to the richness and brilliance of Takhti Cup.

On Thursday morning, the fans of stars swarmed the wrestling hall which was quite unexpected and the officials would not predict such popular turnout. Iran and 17 other countries including Russia, US, Republic of Azerbaijan, Ukraine, China, Pakistan, Kirghizstan, North Korea, Armenia, Hungary, Georgia, Egypt, Bangladesh, Nicaragua, India, Tunisia, and Turkmenistan will rejoice the audience in Imam Khomeini (RA) Wrestling Hall of Kermanshah for two consecutive days.

From among international figures of FILA, Russian Sergei Nowakovsky will supervise over the event representing United World Wrestling.

Of government officials, Ahmad Sajjadi, deputy-minister of sports and youth affairs and Kermanshah provincial government officials and some foreign dignitaries attended the hall to watch the competitions. Notable among the veteran wrestlers present among the spectators were Mansour Barzegar, Reza Soukhte Saraei, Asgari Mohammadian, and others.

Fans were carrying a banner bearing the picture of deceased young talent of province’s wrestling of bright future Babak Qorbani, which garnered ‘God bless you, God bless you’ shouts from the excited fans in the hall.

Mahmoud Goudarzi, minister of sports and youth affairs had attended very briefly on the hall during opening ceremony on Wednesday.

A spectacular event which rejoiced the fans was in Greco-Roman match between Egyptian Fahmi and US Mango, which ended with Egyptian wrestler coming out of the mat as the winner in 59kg category. The very exciting match was scored 16-12.
