President Hassan Rouhani, while delivering a speech today among people participating in the nationwide million-man marches to commemorate the 36th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, highlighted the achievements of his government by referring to a 24 percent growth in non-oil exports, a 18 percent drop in inflation rate, a two rank ascend in the country’s scientific status (14 in the world), and a one-step ascend in nanotechnology (7 in the world.)
Rouhani stressed that Iran is still committed to its previous slogan in its foreign policy which is 'constructive interaction with the world in line with protecting the Islamic Republic’s interests, principles and ideals.'
The President maintained what Iran sought in the course of nuclear negotiations is to reach a ‘win-win deal’, adding “what we mean by a win-win deal is that the country would continue its transparent peaceful nuclear activities within the framework of the international law and the other side would be required to end its wrong, inhuman and illegal sanctions against Iran. This will be to the benefit of both sides.”
While asserting that Iran’s reason for agreeing to sit down at the negotiations table was to preserve peace and stability in the region and not due to sanctions, Rouhani called on western leaders to admit to their own nations the only way for a stable and secure region and an end to terrorism was through ‘interaction with Iran.’
Each year on Feb. 11, millions of Iranians from the four corners of the country flood the streets to participate in marches to commemorate the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.
The Iranian nation toppled the US-backed Pahlavi regime 36 years ago, ending the 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country.
The Islamic Revolution spearheaded by the late Imam Khomeini established a new political system based on Islamic values and democracy.
