Iran unveils new trainer-fighter supersonic jet

TEHRAN, Feb. 09 (MNA) – The Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL) has announced the unveiling of an advanced trainer-fighter jet named ‘Saegheh-2’ and its delivery to Iran’s air force.

On the sideline of the unveiling ceremony, Iranian Deputy Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami pointed to the Ministry of Defense's strategy to reinforce the air fleet by relying on domestic capabilities and indigenous production, adding the new design of the trainer-fighter Saegheh-2 benefited from a much higher combat power than its previous model and provided the possibility for advance training for existing or new heavy fighters.

“Saegheh-2 is a supersonic jet with a two-lounge layout designed and manufactured by scientists at the Aviation Industries Organization of the Armed Forces and in collaboration with the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF),” he said.

Hatami maintained that this feat was in line with promoting self-reliance in the field of trainer-fighter jets as emphasized by Iran’s Leader, adding that the Islamic Republic was among a few counties in possession of various classes of this kind of jets.

The Islamic Republic has frequently announced that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
