Following the advent of laser and access to good quality light, Gholamreza Esmaili said, major changes happened in the treatment of some diseases in various areas such as ophthalmology and dermatology.
He added however there were some restrictions on its use due to the high costs as well as some features of laser sources.
In the wake of their introduction, LED light sources overwhelmed skin and hair treatment methods due to lower cost and their application in larger surfaces.
LED, according to Esmaili, is applied to heal wounds, including chronic wounds, burns, hair loss, skin burns and minor injuries resulting from radiation therapy.
“LED light source quickly privileged position in the photodynamic therapy of malignant and benign skin lesions,” Esmaili stressed, adding that LED is currently used along with optical sensors in the treatment of cancerous and precancerous skin lesions such as skin cancer stem cells and Actinic Keratosis as well as benign lesions including acne and skin rejuvenation.
LED medical technology is fully developed in Iran which can be made available to physicians and patients for the treatment of dermatological diseases, Esmaili concluded.
