Reza Salehi Amiri, talking about the number and the condition of Iranian manuscripts overseas, stated that about one million Persian and Arabic Iranian manuscripts are preserved in India and Pakistan an addition to 500 in Central Asia.
He reminded these manuscripts were Iran’s cultural heritage and it was necessary to provide financial resources to buy either the original versions or their digital versions to be transferred to Iran.
“In my recent visit to Paris I found out that 2,600 precious and rare Iranian manuscripts are preserved at National Library of France. In Spain, we have even more. We have to transfer all to Iran. Unfortunately, some of these documents are suffering from bad maintenance conditions,” he added.
Without specifying the amount of needed budget, he emphasized on the cooperation of Iran’s government to buy and bring back the manuscripts.
