Iran reaches 18th Taekwondo World Cup semifinals

MEXICO CITY, Dec. 07 (MNA) – Iran’s Taekwondo national team gained victory in its last competition in group stage of 18th World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships and reached semifinals.

In its third contest, Iran’s Taekwondo national team, with combination of Farzan Ashourzadeh, Mohammad Bagheri-Motamed, Masoud Haji-Zavareh, Farzad Abdollahi, Mehdi Khodabakhsh and Alireza Nasr-Azadani (reserve), defeated Germany 23-8 in a one-sided game.

In its two previous confrontations in the male category, Iran overpowered opponents from Cote d’Ivoire and the world’s long–standing and traditional Taekwondo champion South Korea reaching semifinals as the first team in Group A.

Iran and South Korea are next to face Mexico and Russia of Group B, winners of which will reach finals.

The 2014 World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships organized by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) started in Mexico on Saturday with the participation of 8 teams. The tournament is to be held over two days.

The participating teams are Mexico, South Korea, Russia, Iran, Germany, France, Cote d’Ivoire and the United States in the men’s division.
