'Terrorism, oil price plummet major problems in Iraq'

TEHRAN, Nov. 11 (MNA) – In a meeting with Iraq’s vice president Nouri al-Maliki in Tehran, President Rouhani mentioned terrorism and fall in oil prices as two major problems for Iraqi people.

President Rouhani lauded Iraqi people and army for their resistance against the terrorist groups and asserted that Iraq has no need for another country’s military intervention to combat ISIL.

“The perseverance of the unity and territorial integrity of Iraq is of high importance to Iran, since the stability in the region can only be aided by a unified Iraq,” said Rouhani.

“Today, the regional nations are facing extremism, violence and terrorism on the one hand, and the crash in oil prices on the other, but we are hoping that together we will be able to tackle these problems,” asserted Rouhani.

Rouhani, while noting that democracy has now fully established in Iraq, deemed the unity among the Shia, Sunni, Kurdish and Arab necessary for the future of Iraq and said, “Iran will continue its unconditional support for Iraq in combating terrorism, and we hope to soon witness the liberation of Iraq from any corrupt agents operating at the whim of some great powers only seeking to cause discord and bloodshed in the region.”

Nouri al-Maliki, for his part, pointed to the terrorists’ attempts at tearing the region apart and said, “thanks to the help from our friends and the implementation of the national reconciliation plan in Iraq, we were able to somewhat bring the situation under control.”

“We utilized Iran’s experience in getting help from voluntary groups and thus managed to stop the terrorists’ progress and drive them out of Iraq,” Mr. al-Maliki stated, “but as long as the insecurities run in the region, its adverse effects on all countries will continue.”
