US News & World Report, a leading US-based publisher of education analysis and rankings, yesterday (October 28) unveiled the inaugural Best Global Universities rankings on usnews.com.
The overall rankings include 500 universities spread out across 49 countries, with Iran having four of its universities listed in the rankings.
The ranking was based on various indicators such as global and regional research reputation, publications, total citations, international collaboration, and number of PhDs awarded.
The University of Tehran, ranking 360 among 500 Best Global Universities, has a regional rank of 52 among the Best Global Universities in Asia. It is also ranked 76 in agricultural sciences and 56 in engineering.
Sharif University of Technology is ranked 377 and has a regional ranking of 59 among the Best Global Universities in Asia. Isfahan University of Technology and Amirkabir University of Technology are the two other Iranian universities listed in US News 500 top ranking institutions.
The first five top universities of the world in 2014 are Harvard University (US), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (US), University of California—Berkeley (US), Stanford University (US), and University of Oxford (UK), respectively.
