Rouhani: Stability in Syria impossible without its govt.

TEHRAN, Sep. 23 (MNA) – Rouhani attended a press conference with the US media executives on Tuesday and discussed the issue of terrorism in Syria.

Iran’s President, Hassan Rouhani, in a press conference with the US media executives, noted that Syria has suffered the most from terrorist attacks and said, “terrorists do not respect political borders; they will continue harassing people wherever they are, violating laws, and attacking women and children, and these brutalities cannot be tolerated.”

During the meeting in New York on Tuesday, Rouhani stated, “Syrian people and government have withstood the most harm from terrorist attacks and want to uproot terrorists.”

Iran’s President deemed it paradoxical that a country would claim to be countering ISIL in Syria and at the same time mobilizing other terrorist groups against the country’s national government, and reaffirmed that “this paradoxical action will never succeed.”

In response to CBS News question in regard to ways to combat terrorism in Syria, Rouhani replied, “first, stability must return to Syria, and that will not be possible without help from the central government, even though certain criticisms might be directed at it.”

Rouhani pointed to Syria’s election and nation’s vote for the current government and added that “we must uproot terrorism so that security could return to Syria and the conditions for the return of Syrian refugees from neighboring countries such as Turkey, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon would be provided.”
