Iran plans air pollution reduction

TEHRAN, Sep. 03 (MNA) – Iran’s VP and head of Department of Environment said that the country has undertaken programs for reduction of air pollution.

Masumeh Ebtekar said that the Department of Environment plans to stop distribution of current pollutant gasoline and to supply Euro 4 standard gasoline.

She said that the program for air pollution reduction contains different dimensions, including public transportation improvement, retirement of old vehicles and producing standard automobiles.

Ebtekar also pointed to haze and said that it roots in neighboring countries and Iran is studying ways to reduce the pollution.

“Some of haze pollution centers are in Iraq and we hope peace will be established again in that country to make opportunities to use facilities to stop dust entering Iran,” added Ebtekar.

She further pointed to drought in Iran and Urmia Lake and said that workgroups have been established to address Urmia Lake issue, 70 per cent of which has already dried out.
