TEHRAN, Aug. 25 (MNA) – Iran’s deputy Civil Aviation Organization for Aeronautical Operations has said passing flights through the country’s airspace have increased 68 percent in last month.

Ebrahim Shoushtari said on Monday that during the last month 7,192 more flights passed through Iran airspace compared to that during previouse month; "this number is 8,831 more flights comparing to the same time last year."

Pointing to the recent developments in the region, Shoushtari said that the country saw impressive rise in number of passing flights through its airspace.

Home flights increased 7.6 percent compared to last year while international flights rised 28.6 percent in comparison to previous year.

All passing flights have passed through Iran’s space under safe condition.  Islamic Republic of Iran’s Air Defense Force (IRIADF) commander had already said that IRIADF would secure all passing flights through the country’s airspace.

Brig. Gen. Farzad Esmaili had told that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) request from the Islamic Republic to allow nonstop flights from Europe to East Asia pass through its airspace.

The commander of the Khatam-ol-Anbiya Air Defense Base added that Iran’s secure airspace provides safety for both army and passenger flights.

The request by ICAO came after the Malaysian Boeing 777 was downed near Ukraine borders reportedly by a surface to air missile killing all 298 passengers on board.
