Araghchi: NPT recognizes nuclear rights as ‘undisputable’

TEHRAN, June 29 (MNA) – Iran’s senior nuclear negotiator has defended Iran’s peaceful nuclear negotiator ahead of nuclear talks.

In an article published in Mosallas Magazine, Seyed Abbas Araghchi analyzed the developments in Iran and Powers negotiations and NPT articles to provide an apology of Iran’s peaceful nuclear technology ahead of Iran and Powers nuclear negotiations in Vienna.

Araghchi gave a historical example of the similar situation in Iranian history when in 1919 Hassan Modarres, famous anti-British representative to the Parliament opposed the 1919 ‘Gass-Golshayan’ agreement. He quoted Modarress speaking to Vusuq al-Dowleh, then Prime Minister, who asked Modarres why he would oppose the treaty.

“Modarres, in an oft-quoted remark, told the Prime Minister that the very first line of the treaty was problematic to him; the first line read ‘the Britain recognizes Iran’s independence,’ and told Vusuq that ‘who on earth the British are to recognize our independence?” wrote Abbas Araghchi in his article, tracing parallels with the current state of affairs when Powers would deny the ‘undisputable nuclear rights recognized by the NPT.’
