TEHRAN, July 17 (MNA) – Iran’s Red Crescent Organization has signed the World AIDS Campaign International (WACI) convention.

Dr. Fardad Droudi , head of the UNAIDS, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, told the meeting that the campaign Protect the Goal was first launched at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa to prevent the spread of AIDS/HIV in the world.

“This is a joint enterprise between the UNAIDS and FIFA which is also active in Brazil World Cup 2014,” he added, “we have good relations with Red Crescent, and the Organization could play a valuable role in preventing AIDS.”

He also called for drafting a memorandum of understanding between UNAIDS and the Youth Office of the Red Crescent to converge attempts in AIDS prevention.

“The majority of art and sports celebrities have joined the UNAIDS, the minister of health, cinema stars, and Iran’s national football team manager Carlos Queiroz and Javad Nekounam, the captain of the team,” Droudi added.

Dr. Vahid Qobadi Dana, head of Youth Office of the Red Crescent told the meeting that the target population of the Youth Office was 5-29 years old, which he believed, required systematic preventive measures to be taken.
