Araghchi: Geneva, a battle ground of wills

TEHRAN, May 24 (MNA) – Iran’s senior negotiator has quoted Mr. Zarif as reportedly saying to the Powers ‘I am not here to incite attack on my country.’

Abbas Araghchi, who was addressing the nationwide meeting of IRGC political guides, quoted Zarif in nuclear negotiations with Powers.

Mehr News quoted Sepah News, an IRGC news website reported about Mr. Araghchi’s address of the clerical order. “The Islamic republic of Iran had upheld the view that it would not be submitted by bullying words, and thus it had not suspended enrichment; this is the secrets of Iran’s power,” Araghchi was quoted by the website as saying.

“This was a battle ground for wills and the Islamic Republic of Iran had pursuing its objectives with strong determination in the framework guided by international rules,” added Araghchi. “In a favorable technological situation, there would be little reason to pay cost, and we negotiated not to pay any expenses while we had achieved great things,” he asserted.

“The position adopted by the Islamic Republic of Iran was a win-win approach, however in subjects, not in fundamental foreign policy tenets,” he told the meeting. “In a tactically-led game, Iran would not concede any points to the other side,” Araghchi said.

“The Geneva joint Plan of Action had recognized the very fact of enrichment and the US would not bestow any such right on us, since the NPT gives it us. We asked for our rights implemented, and that they not impose sanctions,” he added.

“In Geneva, Iran insisted on its rights and the west abandoned any opposition; they agreed that Arak heavy water complex would operate in a combined formula and Fordow would operate as well,” Araghchi said.
