Iran develops ‘conceptual model’ of spacecraft

TEHRAN, May 11 (MNA) – The head of Institute for Astronautic Systems of Iranian Space Agency has said the agency has designed a conceptual model of a spacecraft.

Dr. Mohammad Ebrahimi told Mehr News that the spacecraft weighing 300 to 500Kg. was in line with Iran’s project to send man to space. “The first step in sending man to space is to send spaceship to earth’s orbit, which has been projected for mid-term plan,” he added. “For the present year (2014), we have in agenda design of a conceptual model of spacecraft to carry the simplest form of life such as a small monkey or a tiny rat, to earth’s orbit,” he said.

He emphasized that the conceptual model had been designed in close collaboration with Amir Kabir University of Technology, and that the preliminary work would begin after the final approval and further notification to the Space Agency.

Ebrahimi also added that the 300-Kg. spacecraft would be placed beyond 250Km. orbit above the earth.

Already Iran has in its list of achievements sending two rockets to suborbital region which returned the living creatures back to earth in full health.

Sending man to space is a target designated for the 2025 in the country’s ‘comprehensive science map.’
