On Wednesday morning Ali Mohajeri told reporters that Shahdad Yardangs were among the most beautiful and attractive phenomena in Iran’s salt deserts.
He maintained that Iran was busy gathering relevant evidence to propose Shahdad Yardangs to the UNESCO and added that a group of experts left for Kerman to visit the region and gather necessary information.
“a Yardang is a streamlined hill carved from bedrock or any consolidated or semi-consolidated material by the dual action of wind abrasion, dust and sand with 180 km length and 50 km width surrounding Lut Salt Desert.
“Salt river and ‘Gandom Beryan’ region are in the vicinity of Shahdad Yardangs” added he.
Iranian scientists contend that Shahdad in Lut Salt Desert, near south-eastern city of Kerman, is the hottest, with temperatures in shadow of 67’ Celsius, rising up to 100’ Celsius on ground surface during sunny days.
