Ilam to expand interactions with Iraq

ILAM, April 22 (MNA) – Ilam provincial governor has said Ilam has plans to expand cultural and economic interactions with border provinces of Iraq.

Mohammad Reza Morvarid who was addressing a meeting of provincial officials in Ilam on Monday told that the province’s high officials had developed plans to promote the status of Ilam’s cultural and economic interactions with Iraq’s border provinces. “Joint sessions with Iraqi officials and businessmen would be crucial to improve the province’s relations with Iraq especially in economy and to find markets for Iranian goods,” the governor was quoted by Mehr News correspondent in Ilam as saying.

He also pointed to agreements signed on university student exchange programs in different university courses. “The province has high potentials in its universities to host Iraqi students, thus providing grounds for implementing the student exchange program,” he added.

Morvarid also said that Ilam would be a good destination for Iraqi patients coming for treatment and tourism. “Tackling issues restricting the tourism in the province, either for treatment or for sightseeing in the province’s pristine and beautiful nature would contribute to people’s economic status,” he said, and called private firms to “play an important role in exporting technical and engineering services to Iraq drawing upon unique potentials of the province,” and said that Iran’s embassy in Iraq would support such enterprises.
