Zebari says Iraq is a sovereign nation

TEHRAN, Feb. 26 (MNA) – Reacting to US seeking explanation by Iraqi authorities on Iran-Iraq arms deal Iraqi foreign minister has said Iraq has its own sovereignty; relies on itself.

In a joint press conference with Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif in Tehran on Wednesday, Iraqi foreign minister Hoshyar Zebari responded to a Mehr News question that what would be Iraq’s reaction to the US officials’ demand over Iran-Iraq arms deal. “Iraq owns its own sovereignty and relies on itself,” Zebari told.

He added that US demanded Iraq to provide comments on such deal and Iraqi foreign ministry commented on the issue, emphasizing that no such deal had ever been made between Iran and Iraq.

Zebari pointed to Iran’s nuclear negotiations with the world powers. “I think those who have always tried to foster tension and concerns over nuclear agreement are disturbed since solving the crisis is in favor of Iranians and their sanctions removal.”

Iraqi foreign minister believed that Iran nuclear issue was manipulated based on lies and it was not really an issue.

“We believe that Iranophobia is promoted by extremists and Zionists, which is a big lie and should be avoided so that brings more stability and peace to the region.”
