“There are no secret details about this deal, and it is the same thing that has been released to the media,” Larijani told reporters in response to a question asking why some MPs have complained that they have no information about the content of the deal.
He also dismissed the speculation that there are some elements within the executive branch of government who are trying to link the country’s economy to the West.
No reason to have negative view toward nuclear talks
Larijani said there is no reason to have a “negative view” toward the nuclear negotiations between Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany), and added that the ground is prepared to resolve the differences over Iran’s nuclear program if the West really wants to find a diplomatic solution to the issue.
“There is no reason to have a negative view toward these negotiations. If the West wants to resolve the Iran nuclear issue through diplomacy, the ground is prepared.”
However, if the West has a “business-like view” toward the issue, it will be very unlikely that a final deal can be reached, he added.
U.S. cannot force Iran to halt its nuclear program
Larijani also said the West has announced that it has some “concerns” about Iran’s future nuclear activities and there is a “solution” to allay these concerns.
But it would be a “mistake” if U.S. officials think they can force Iran to halt its peaceful nuclear program, he added.
There should be national consensus on nuclear talks
The Iranian parliament speaker said the nuclear negotiations are a “national issue” requiring a “national consensus” among the three branches of government “because it would help us in pushing the negotiations forward, but this does not mean that views should be not expressed in the Majlis.”
Obama will gain nothing if negotiations fail
Asked about his advice for the people in the United States who are trying to sabotage the nuclear talks, Larijani said, “They do not listen to our recommendations, but they should know that if the talks reach a deadlock, (U.S. President Barack) Obama will gain nothing.”
And there is a long road ahead for Iran and the United States if they want to establish a relationship, he noted.
No talk of Iran-U.S. parliamentary friendship group
Larijani also said that the rumors about the possibility of the establishment of a parliamentary friendship group by Iran and the U.S. is just media speculation because no “concrete action” has been taken in this regard so far.
Ballot box is solution to Bahrain crisis
Turning to regional issues, Larijani stated that Tehran’s position is that the crisis in Syria can only be resolved through diplomacy and a political solution.
And the ballot box is the solution to the crisis in the kingdom of Bahrain, he added.
