Iran, S Korean parliament speakers discuss bilateral trade

TEHRAN, Jan. 27 (MNA) – Iran’s Parliament speaker has received South Korean National Assembly speaker yesterday.

Mehr News Parliament correspondent reported that two speakers attended a joint press conference. Larijani expressed happiness to receive Kang Chang Hee. “Iran and South Korea have long history of cultural and economic relations. In the recent past, trade level between the two countries has been boosted; with fluctuations in the recent two years however,” added Larijani, who also represents Qom constituency in Iranian Parliament.

“We believe that the visit by South Korean National Assembly speaker to Iran has created positive atmosphere in bilateral relations,” Larijani asserted, and that “in discussions, we focused on economic relations, and ways to boost bilateral trade and facilitating the trade for business for entrepreneurs of both countries.”

Larijani also added that they had discussed politics and international relations, expressing hope that the visit by South Korean official would be a turning point in bilateral ties, and that “the official would implement the agreements made in Tehran back in South Korea.”

He pointed to invitation by South Korean official offered to himself for a visit to South Korea. “In visiting back Seoul, we will address the development of bilateral cooperation,” said Larijani, and that “I hope we found the propitious opportunity for this visit.”

South Korean National Assembly speaker told reporters that he had extensively read and learned from others about Iran’s history and culture before the visit, and that “upon visit, I found Iran as a great country,” citing 50 years of Iran-Korea relations. “We discussed international developments and found significant common grounds,” he said.

Asked about possible impact of Iran and South Korean relations on the regional development, he told that Iran was an important country of the Middle East, with large mines and natural resources.

“South Korea has been successful in economy virtually without any natural resources. Our technology would help Iran’s mines be developed. Iran has taken significant steps toward Geneva deal and it definitely is of importance in bilateral relations with South Korea,” he asserted.
