Rouhani says Geneva-2 would contribute nothing to stability in Syria

TEHRAN, Jan. 22 (MNA) – Iranian president has said he would not invest much hope in Geneva-2 conference on Syria.

Hassan Rouhani, who was talking to reporters when leaving for Geneva to attend in Davos economic summit, Switzerland in Tehran, told that Geneva-2 conference on Syria would achieve nothing to contribute to stability in Syria, since some countries supporting terrorism in Syria were present in the conference.

“Geneva-2 and Davos economic summit are totally different meetings. Geneva-2 on Syria is a political meeting,” said Rouhani, “the facts show us that this conference could not be effective in establishing stability in Syria.”

Asked about Iran’s position, Rouhani told that Iran supported peace and stability in Syria, fighting terrorism, and help Syrian people find democracy. “If Geneva-2 conference achieves this, then it will be deemed effective in terms of solving crisis in Syria,” he added.

Asked what contribution Davos economic summit would have to Iranian economy, Rouhani told that Davos was one of the most effective summit meetings where policy-makers, scholars, and CEOs of big economic firms meet. “Our attendance provides Iran with an opportunity to publicize our economic, political and regional positions internationally,” Rouhani believed.

“In Davos, I will address the general session; the meeting with CEOs of economic firms, and also will address the officials of oil and gas companies,” Rouhani detailed on his agenda in Davos, “ I will also give interviews to media and visit officials from different countries.”
