According to agreements made between Helga Schmid, Ashton’s aid, and Abbas Araghchi, Iranian senior nuclear negotiator in recent week, January 20 was agreed as the ultimate day for Geneva deal implementation.
The date was agreed upon on January 9 in expert level negotiations in Geneva. However, Iranian negotiators confirmed the date, yet conditioned it to reaching a clear understanding by both sides of some differences, addressed by Helga Shmid and Abbas Araghchi in their Thursday meeting.
Hamid Baidinejad, the head of Iran’s expert negotiating team told Mehr News after expert level talks of December 30 that the expert negotiators had agreed on January 20 as the final day, but reiterated that there had been some points of political discord. “If these differences are solved, the date will be the starting date for Geneva deal implementation,” he added.
However, Abbas Araghchi told the reporters after his Thursday meeting that they agreed on a proposed date, but refused to give the specific date. Mehr News correspondent’s attempts revealed that January 20 would be the date for Joint Action Plan, if Schmid and Araghchi solved their differences.
