Tehran to host intl. conference on mystic Ardebili

TEHRAN, Dec. 30 (MNA) – Tehran will be playing host to an international conference on the mystic Sheikh Safi ad-Din Ardebili (1253–1334) next week.

The one-day meeting will be held at the National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) on January 6, NLAI spokesman Enayat Salarian announced in a press release on Saturday.

The conference has been organized by the NLAI to bring Iranian and international experts together to discuss the thoughts and works of Sheikh Safi and his influence on Islamic and Shia mysticism.

Over 30 articles, four of which have been submitted by experts from England and several other countries, will be presented during the conference.

Sheikh Safi was the founder of a Sufism center in the northwestern Iranian city of Ardebil that is home to his mausoleum, which was registered on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2010.

His descendant Ismail I founded the Safavid dynasty that ruled Iran during the 16th, 17th, and early 18th centuries.
