Cavanşir Axundov told Mehr News during his visit to Mehr News Agency and Tehran Times News Paper that Iran could register in UNESCO many items as intangible heritage.
“The ‘Tar’ instrument registered by Azerbaijan is a unique instrument which Azeri singers and players have wrought major changes on it,” he added.
Asked by Mehr News about the registering of ‘Tar’ as an Azeri musical instrument in UNESCO, he told that Sadıqcan, Azerbaijani song master and Tar-player had been working for long on the instruments common in the region and had greatly refined the instrument. “Then living in Karabakh, added 6 strings to 5 strings of the common ‘Tar’ instrument, and we registered the 11-stringed instrument in UNESCO,” he said.
“Iran is a wealthy country in terms of culture and natural resources and it could propose and register in UNESCO many cultural phenomenon; rug-weaving practices in Kerman, Isfahan, and Nayeen; local dishes in Khuzestan and Tabriz; civil architecture in Dezful, Qom, etc,” he told Mehr News.
Axundov, who has a PhD in History, told that during his incumbency as Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Tehran, “we had held Azerbaijan’s cultural week in Iran and Iran’s cultural week in Azerbaijan.”
“In mid-May 2014, we will hold Azerbaijan’s cultural week in Tehran,” he also added.
About the airing of the serialized episodes of ‘Shahriar’ in Azerbaijan’s state TV, he said that they would respect Iranian serialized movies, but complained that Iran had generally ignored the Azeri cinema products. “We have common culture and we should improve the relations,” he said.
