Mehr News quoted Abbas Araghchi in an interview with Azerbaijani Trend News Agency, saying that Iran’s right to enrichment has been asserted in the NPT treaty, ratified by the international documents and regulations.
“Iran’s right for enrichment is not a right to be granted by any other country. We do have this right,” Araghchi was quoted to have said by Trend.
John Kerry, US Secretary of State had said that no enrichment right had been designated in Genève joint action plan for Iran. Araghchi was responding this claim by Kerry. “Here there is a fallacy, creating a bit of misunderstanding. The right to enrichment is not a right to be granted by any other country. We do not need recognition of our enrichment right by any country,” Araghchi added, and that “however, we expect respect to our rights and that its implementation should be accepted, which happened in Genève, with the US and other powers accepting that Iran would continue enriching uranium.”
“An achievement in Genève was that Iran’s right to enrichment has been established, with all countries’ consent to that,” he added.
Asked about further steps after the deal, Araghchi told that the deal was part of greater agreement, and both sides to the deal would take on the greater agreement as ultimate solution.
Araghchi also rejected the possibility of reassessment of Genève deal and told that “it is an agreement signed and Iran has also signed it.”
About further negotiations with EU officials to implement sanctions removal agreed on Genève, Araghchi said that it was an issue within the EU which Mrs. Ashton was responsible for.
