'Support for diplomatic team not inconsistent with opposition to U.S.'

TEHRAN, Oct. 30 (MNA) – Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf says that support for the nuclear negotiating team is not inconsistent with opposition to U.S. policy toward the Islamic Republic.

“Support for Iran’s diplomatic negotiating team is not inconsistent with animosity toward the United States,” the mayor of Tehran stated on Monday.

Qalibaf, who finished in second in the June 2013 presidential election, added, “We do not forget the crimes of the U.S.… but we support Iran’s diplomatic negotiating team in the talks with the United States.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held short talks with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on the sidelines of the annual UN General Assembly meeting in New York in September.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi also held bilateral talks in Geneva with Wendy Sherman, who was the U.S. representative in the talks between Iran and the six major powers that were held in the Swiss city on October 15 and 16.
