We support tougher sanctions on Iran, U.S. senators tell Netanyahu

TEHRAN, Oct. 2 (MNA) – Several U.S. senators and congressmen who met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday told him that they support his call for harsher sanctions on Iran, Israel National News reported.

Democratic Senator Robert Menendez, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told reporters after the meeting with Netanyahu, "Our determination to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons remains unchanged and we will not hesitate to sharpen the sanctions and use other options to protect U.S. interests and ensure regional security." 

According to Reuters, Netanyahu urged U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday to step up sanctions on Iran if it continues to pursue its nuclear program.
