Real Expenses of Duel Rls 50b: Director

TEHRAN Feb. 8 (Mehr News Agency) –- Ahmad Reza Darvish, the director of the film “Duel” said the cost of making the movie was Rls 50 billion and according to Darvish, high capital costs and extensive facilities made “Duel” the most expensive film ever made in the history of filmmaking in Iran.

However, Darvish considers it is better to consider this film on its merits as a serious work rather than its expense since he believes producing the “Duel” project has been an innovative event in the Iranian cinema history.

Duel is the story of a soldier named Zeynal who returns to Iraq after several years of captivity, determined to inflict damage on his homeland.

Darvish said he has done his best to depict the reality of the holy defense, particularly through special effects and set design. The scenario of the film was revised and rewritten five times with the interaction of both the filmmaker and the editor, Darvish said. And the cameo appearances and small parts played by renowned Iranian cinema movie stars Sa’id Rad, Pejman Bazghi, Parivash Nazarieh, Kambiz Dirbaz, Hediyeh Tehrani, Parviz Parastu’i and Anushiravan Arjmand show the significance of the film.

Respected Persian actor, Sa’id Rad, during the press conference said the multidimensional personality of Eskandar in the film was the motive behind his selection of this role.

Darvish said “Duel” required both mental and physical action under tough conditions from the actors.

Leading actor Pejman Bazeghi explained he enjoyed playing the complicated role of Zeynal, although it was very difficult for him. He said Zeynal was a human being, belonging to our modern time, so it was not difficult to make contact with him.

Mohsen Rozbehani responsible for the special effects in “Duel” said fortunately the director of the film knew what is actually needed in every scene making it easier for the crew. According to Rozbehani, because of numerous explosions, the director exactly knew how to protect the security of the artists.

“Duel” cinematographer Bahram Badakhshani referring to the action in all the scenes said, in "Duel” due attention has been paid to each scene and there is not one scene without motion."

He said making “Duel” was an unfamiliar cinematography experience for him.

Darvish lamented about cinema salon problems in the Esteqlal Cinema criticizing facilities for the movie’s sound presentation.

“Duel” has participated both in the Iranian cinema and International Fajr Film Festival.
