Ministers of industries and education may face impeachment

TEHRAN, Sept. 29 (MNA) – MPs have lodged two impeachment motions against Industries and Mines Minister Ali-Akbar Mehrabian and Education Minister Hamidreza Hajibabaii.

28 lawmakers have signed the letter for impeaching the education minister.
The motion was introduced at the Majlis session on Wednesday.

Based on the law, if the impeachment is endorsed by the presiding board the minister will face impeachment after 10 days.

Hajibabaii has expressed astonishment over the impeachment bid against himself.

14 MPs have also signed a letter to impeach the industries and mines minister

Signatories of the impeachment proposal have cited Industries Deputy Minister Iraj Nadimi’s recent remarks on Imam Khomeini’s pronouncement about the role of Majlis as well as the ministry’s poor performance as the reasons for the move.

In an interview Nadimi had stated it is not “a word of gospel” that Majlis is on top of affairs.

However, Majlis deputy speaker Shahabeddin Sadr announced on Wednesday that Nadimi has written a letter of apology to the parliament.

In the letter Nadimi has noted that what has been published in the media is somehow different from what he had actually uttered.
