Tehran Vocal Ensemble to perform composition by Rachmaninoff

TEHRAN, Sept. 25 (MNA) -- The Tehran Vocal Ensemble will be performing a composition by Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff in their upcoming mid-November concert in Tehran.

They will be dedicating the composition to deceased Iranian tenor Mohammad Nuri. The solo singer, whose career spanned more than 40 years in folk music, died in Tehran’s Jam Hospital in August. He was 81.

The ensemble was scheduled to give their concert in mid-October. “The concert was postponed for several reasons. The ensemble will be performing twelve more new pieces at the concert,” the ensemble’s conductor Milad Omranlu told the Mehr News Agency on Saturday.

The ensemble won two medals at the World Choir Games 2010 in China. It won a silver medal in the Folklore Section and a bronze medal in the Mixed Chamber Choirs section.

It also won a Golden Diploma in Italy’s 8th International Choir Competition and Festival of Jazz, Gospel, Pop, Secular and Sacred Music.

Also included are a gold medal in the Mixed Choir Category of the 11th International Folksong Choir Festival and two medals at the 2nd Asian Choir Games that took place in South Korea earlier this year.
