KUALA LUMPUR – An Iranian couple was arrested at Kuala Lumpur airport on Thursday on charges of smuggling drugs.

The 29-year-old man and his 25-year-old wife were in possession of 975 grams of methamphetamine, the Malaysian police said.

The illegal substance was hidden in the shoes of the man when it was identified by the inspection machine, the police added.

The investigations showed that the couple had previously travelled to Malaysia on tourist visas, the man two times and the wife three times, the police stated.

According to the Malaysian police, the majority of drug smugglers arrested in Malaysia are from Nigeria, Turkey, Iran, and Bulgaria. These criminals sold illegal drugs to their compatriots in Malaysia.

In the current year, over 90 Iranians have been arrested by the Malaysian police on charges of possession of illegal drugs valued at about two million dollars.
