Iran Cinema Celebration honors filmmaker Taqvaii

TEHRAN, Sept. 11 (MNA) -- Iranian director Nasser Taqvaii was honored during the award presentation ceremony of the annual Iran Cinema Celebration on Thursday.

The winners of the celebration were announced during a ceremony which was attended by several cineastes at Tehran’s Eyvan-e Shams Theater.

At the ceremony, the celebrated filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami and veteran editor Abbas Ganjavi went on stage to pay tribute to Taqvaii.

“It is a great honor for me to be here with my friend Nasser Taqvaii. I still introduce myself as a short filmmaker and now I am editing a short film,” Kiarostami mentioned at the ceremony.

Taqvaii also expressed his appreciation for Kiarsotami’s presence at the event and for his latest film “Certified Copy”. He also commented briefly on short film production in Iran.

“I hope that some theaters will be dedicated exclusively to screening short films in Iran,” Taqvaii stated at the ceremony. He also clarified the difference between feature and short films. “Unlike a feature film, a short film ends when its structure is completed, which implies the world view of the filmmaker”.

The ceremony continued with the screening of the short film “The Snail” by Azad Mohammadi which was selected by the jury as the best film of the celebration.

The following is a list of the other winners at the independent celebration of documentary cinema:

Best Film Award: “The Snail” by Azad Mohammadi

Best Director Award: Azad Mohammadi for “The Snail”

Best Experimental Director Award: Kazem Molaii for “Minus”

Best Editor Award: Meysam Samadi for “A Portrait’s Radiology”

Best Screenplay Honorary Diploma: Karam Lakzadeh for “Sorrows and Instincts”

Best Sound Effects Honorary Diploma: Mehrshad Malakuti for “A Portrait’s Radiology”

The main section of Iran Cinema Celebration which is dedicated to feature film will be held tonight at the Milad Tower.

Iran Cinema Celebration is held annually to celebrate Iran’s National Cinema Day (Sep. 12) and is sponsored by the House of Cinema.
