Tehran, Baghdad agree on release of Iranian prisoners

TEHRAN, Sept. 8 (MNA) – Iranian Ambassador to Iraq Hassan Danaifar has announced Iran and Iraq have reached an agreement on release of Iranian prisoners in Iraq, but he did not give more details.

“This issue is high on the agenda. We have followed up the issue over the past month and have made preliminary agreement with the Iraqi party. We hope that the agreement will be implemented in the near future,” he told the Mehr News Agency.

Because, some provisions of the agreement are not final now, the details can not be released, he explained.

It is a significant breakthrough, and if the agreement is put into practice, many issues will be resolved, he added.

Some Iranians who go to Iraq as pilgrims are being jailed for illegal entry.
