IRGC denies link to assault on Karroubi’s residence

TEHRAN Sept. 5 (MNA) – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corp (IRGC) issued a statement on Sunday denying any connection with the attack on Mahdi Karroubi’s home.

Certain elements attacked and battered the opposition leader’s home late Thursday just hours before the beginning of the major rallies to mark the International Qods Day on Friday.

Some sources have claimed that the Basij forces affiliated with IRGC have organized the attack.

According to reports, Karroubi’s guards have fired warning shots to drive the attackers back.

“Gathering of some headstrong elements outside Karroubi’s home which led to shooting from his home was organized by a number of unwise and willful elements and we strongly condemn the incident … and those who have been behind this incident have no relation with the sacred organs of Basij and Sepah (IRGC),” the statement says.
