Iran blames U.S., Israel for Zahedan terror attack

TEHRAN, May 29 (MNA) – Tehran’s interim Friday prayers leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami has blamed the U.S. and Israel for Thursday’s terror blast in Zahedan, Sistan and Baluchestan province.

The terror attack was carried out by the “evil salafists” but the U.S. and Israel had "undoubtedly” masterminded the attack, he told worshipers on Friday.

In a statement released on Friday it was reported that so far 25 people have been killed as a result of the blast, 10 of them in hospital.

The blast happened on Thursday in the Ali ibn Abitaleb mosque in Zahedan, a city near the border with Pakistan.

Thursday was a public holiday marking the death of the Prophet Mohammad’s daughter, Fatima.

Khatami said, “(we) should be careful about the enemies’ conspiracies aimed at creating division between Shias and Sunnis.”

He also gave reassurances that those who behind this act will soon be brought to justice.
