Party leader urges Karroubi, Rezaii to drop out of race

QAZVIN, May 28 (MNA) – The Moderation and Development Party chief has pleaded Mahdi Karroubi and Mohsen Rezaii, two presidential contenders, to drop out of the race in favor of Mir-Hossein Mousavi because he said the former prime minister enjoys more public support.

“ ….since votes for Mousavi are on the rise therefore it is in the interests of Karroubi and Rezaii to withdraw in favor of Mousavi,” Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said in a gathering of students and teachers in Qazvin on Wednesday night.

Karroubi, who represents a group of reformists, has rejected any calls to give up the race in favor of Mousavi. Rezaii, a moderate conservative politician, has also said he will fight to the end.

Mousavi is surrounded by large number of reformist, moderate and even conservative political groups and parties.

Nobakht, a former lawmaker, said Mousavi managed the country with only 52 billion dollars during eight years of war (the 198-1980 Iran-Iraq war) but President Ahmadinejad has not succeeded to do any remarkable thing despite abundant oil incomes in recent years.
