Samir to publish new Persian translation of “Les Misérables” again

TEHRAN, May 26 (MNA) -- Kiumars Parsaii is translating “Les Misérables” from French into Persian.

The book was previously translated into Persian 60 years ago by Hosseinqoli Mosta’an.


The books will be released by the Samir Publications. The five-volume book follows the lives and interactions of several French characters over a twenty-year period in the early 19th century.



Iranian actress donates 20m rls to Pakistani refugees


TEHRAN -- Iranian actress Katayun Riahi donated 20,000,000 rls (about $2,000) to Pakistani refugees during a ceremony at the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting on Monday to honor the cast and crew of the TV series “Prophet Joseph.”


She received the sum as compensation for her role in the 45-episode TV series, which was aired by IRIB over the nine past months.



Spanish company buys distribution rights to Qobadi’s “Persian Cats”


TEHRAN -- Alta Films has bought Spanish distribution rights of Bahman Ghobadi’s Cannes award-winning film “No One Knows about Persian Cats.”


The distributor bought the Spanish rights from French sales agent Wild Bunch at Cannes last week.


The film shared the Special Prize in the Un Certain Regard category with Mia Hansen-Love’s “Father of My Children” from France at the 2009 Cannes film festival.



Turkish festival to screen Iranian new wave films


TEHRAN -- Five Iranian films will go on screen at the Altinkoza Film Festival from Iranian new wave in Turkey.


Abbas Kiarostami’s “Close-up,” Majid Majidi’s “Children of Heaven,” Jafar Panahi’s “The Mirror,” Babak Pahani’s “Secret Ballot” and Hassan Yektapanah’s “Djomeh” are the films on screen.


The festival will run from June 8 to 14 in Adana city.



Sahar TV to air doc on Azeri Mugham


TEHRAN -- The Iranian TV station Sahar will air an Azeri documentary about the effects of Iranian music on Azeri musical tradition Mugham.


Entitled “Mugham”, the 13-part documentary series is directed by Iranian director Gholamreza Siamizadeh.


It contains several interviews with music experts and professionals on Iranian as well as Azeri music.



Imam Ali (AS) Museum to display calligraphy works on Ashura


TEHRAN -- One hundred calligraphy artworks by Ali Shirazi on the theme of Ashura will be unveiled at the Imam Ali (AS) Religious Arts Museum on May 27.


The artworks which are kept at the museum’s storehouse will go on display on the occasion of the anniversary of the martyrdom of Hazrat Fatima (SA).



Intl. Painting Biennial of the Islamic World to host 38 countries


TEHRAN -- Over 38 countries will take part at Iran’s International Painting Biennial of the Islamic World.


A number of countries including Azerbaijan, Jordan, Italy, Romania, Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Mexico, Yemen, China and Sri Lanka will attend the event.


The biennial will be held at Iranian Academy of Arts and the selected artworks will go on display from June 20 to July 21.
