Alidi’s “Whisper” wins three awards at Cannes

TEHRAN, May 23 (MNA) -- Shahram Alidi’s Kurdish drama “Whisper with the Wind” scooped three awards at this year’s 62nd Cannes Film Festival.

The awards contained the US$10,600 cash prize sponsored by the Main Fund of Social Activities (CCAS) and awarded by the Assn. of Independent Cinema for Distribution (ACID); the Ofaj/TV5 Monde prize, (VERY) Young Critic Award awarded by a jury of 32 French and German high school students; and the Regarde Jeunes prize, given by seven young film buffs.

 

Alidi’s debut film is about a postman who for many years has traveled throughout the mountainous villages of the Iraqi Kurdistan region delivering messages. One day, a partisan commander asks him to make a recording of his new-born baby’s first cry.

 

 

Tehran museum to host “Epic of Liberation” exhibit

 

TEHRAN -- Tehran’s Palestine Museum of Contemporary Art is to play host to a collection by masters of painting, graphic design, photo, typography and sculpture on Sunday in an exhibit entitled “Epic of Liberation.”

 

Works by masters such as Habib Sadeqi, Morteza Gudarzi, Kazem Chalipa, Kazem Akhavan, Saeid Sadeqi, Rasul Mollaqolipur and Reza Deghati will be put on display at the gallery until May 31.

 

The collection focuses on the central theme of Iran’s Sacred Defense and resistance. The museum is located on Baradaran-e Mozaffar St. near Felestin Square.

 

 

Iran’s “Penalty” to compete at Taormina Film Festival

 

TEHRAN -- “Penalty” by Iranian director Ensieh Shah-Hosseini will find its way to thecompetition section of the 55th Taormina Film Festival running from June 13 to 20.

 

Soccer is the main theme of the film, which is set in the Khuzestan region of Iran, during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.

 

Qasem Zare, Reza Nuri, Sadeq Hatefi, Mohammad Jamalpur, and Rasul Bahar-Angiz are among the cast members.
