U.S. seeks to contain Iran, Russia and China: Rohani

TEHRAN, May 20 (MNA) – The U.S. is setting long-term goals to contain Iran, Russia and China as it is deploying more troops in Central Asia, Expediency Council Strategic Research Center Director Hassan Rohani said on Tuesday.

It is naive to think that Washington wants to fight terrorism and the Taliban by deploying more troops in Afghanistan, Rohani told a specialized meeting on Iran, Russia and the West.

He said the U.S. has set up 55 military bases in Iraq, 8 in Saudi Arabia, and stationed forces in the Arab countries on the Persian Gulf.

The former Supreme National Security Council chief added all this is an indication that the Washington is adopting an “interfering and provocative” policy in the region.

“This has also caused a wave of insecurity” he added.

Rohani went on to say that Russia and Iran share similar views on regional issues as both countries are surrounded by the U.S. troops in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Central Asia, the Caucasus, and the Persian Gulf region.
