TEHRAN, May 19 (MNA) – Tokyo is willing to cooperate with Tehran to help resolve the crises facing Afghanistan, Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone said on Monday.

He made the remarks during a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki.


The foreign ministers also discussed ways to improve bilateral relations between the two countries.


Mottaki, for his part, underscored the importance of Japans’ cooperation with Iran to help Afghanistan overcome its crises.


Iran and Japan issued a joint statement on March 5 in Tehran announcing that the two countries have agreed to work together in the international efforts for the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan.
