Over 6% of the homeless in Tehran have university degree

TEHRAN, May 19 (MNA) -- Tehran Municipality’s figures for 1387 (March 2008-March 2009) showed that 6.3% of street people in the metropolis of Tehran have university education.

1.6% of the homeless have B.A. degree and 4.7% have associate degree, the figures showed.

According to Social Deputy Police Chief Reza Qanilou, the rate of homeless and beggars with higher education in developed countries is much higher than the rate in less-developed or developing countries.

Qanilou blamed financial, physical, and psychological problems for the university graduates’ homelessness in Tehran and said that social problems play a minor role in this regard.
