Arab diplomats dismiss claims Iran playing negative role in Iraq

SHUNEH, Jordan, May 17 (MNA) – Senior Arab officials criticized the United States for the occupation of Iraq and dismissed claims that Iran is playing a destructive role in the country.

“The occupation of Iraq was the United States’ big mistake which neither improved the security in the country nor in the region,” Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa said on Sunday in a roundtable meeting held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum conference in Shuneh, Jordan.

Moussa said the United States has also made many other big mistakes that will seriously affect the lives of Iraqi people.

He also said Arab countries should strengthen their ties with Iran.

Bahrain's Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid Al Khalifa also said Iraq’s neighbors can play a significant role in resolving security challenges in the country.

Iraqi Vice-President Adel Abdul-Mahdi said all political factions and the public believe the U.S. forces should leave Iraq soon.
