Imitating U.S. is not a sign of progress: Leader

TEHRAN, May 17 (MNA) -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei stated on Sunday that imitating the United States is not a sign of progress.

“Imitating the United States and others is not a sign of progress and is of no value,” he said in a meeting with the university students and professors in Kordestan Province.

The Supreme Leader added, “Paying attention to the nation’s independence and refraining from models that make the country wretched, dependent, and a follower of political powers, is the first necessity of a progressive model.”

Ayatollah Khamenei made a reference to the globalization process and said, “The nations should maintain their political and economic independence if globalization is to be materialized properly.”

The Supreme Leader also emphasized that scientific advancement is an imperative.

“We should hasten our scientific progress in all areas and add to human’s science.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei criticized those who are not happy with the nation’s firm persistence in the face of foreign pressure, adding the Islamic Revolution has become an exemplar for other nations throughout the globe.

He also stated, “The firm stance of the Iranian nation on international issues should always be presented proudly so that the people throughout the globe realize the glory of this nation and its elected system.”

Pointing to the “ethnic diversity” in Iran, the Supreme Leader observed that despite such diversity “all ethnicities of the Iranian nation unanimously pursue national-Islamic causes.”
