Mahram qualifies for FIBA Asia Champions Cup semifinals

JAKARTA, Indonesia, May 17 (MNA) -- Iran’s Mahram advanced to the semifinals round of the 20th FIBA Asia Champions Cup after beating Indian Young Cagers on Sunday.

In the match held at the Britama Arena Sportsmall in Jakarta, Mahram proved too mighty for Young Cagers racing away to a 97-73 win to become the first team to enter the semifinals of the tournament.

The American Priest Lauderdale (who had an upset stomach) and Hamed Sohrabnejad (who had an ankle injury) were the only two Mahram players who didn’t take the court as the Iranian league champions completed their 5-0 run in the tournament. The team has aleady defeated the Philippines’ Smart Gilas, Lebanon’s Al-Riyadhi, Al-Qadsia of Kuwait and South Korean Sangmoo Army Club.

“We easily qualified for the semifinals. The Indian representative was not a strong team and we took advantage of this opportunity and fielded our reserve players,” said Mahram assistant coach Ali Arezoomandi in the post-match news conference.
